Lori Buffalow Owner and director, of the Next Step Dance Studio. She has been teaching and dancing professionally for the past 30 years. While a member of the American Dance Company and the United Spirit Association, she performed in concerts featuring Huey Lewis & The News, The Beach Boys, and Gloria Estefan. She was a member of the San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush. Lori earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary's College and has been a popular dance instructor for children and teens in the Danville area for many years.
Since taking over The Next Step, her performing dance teams have won top awards while earning several dance scholarships. The teams have performed at Disneyland, on Cruise lines and performed on a three European Dance Tours plus numerous local charitable events helping to raise money for worthwhile causes in the surrounding community. Several of the Next Step's students have advanced to college dance teams, pro sports teams, and have made careers in dance production. The goal of The Next Step is to provide a positive, nurturing experience for students, in varying styles of dance on all levels & for all ages. A talented and professional staff has been assembled in order to achieve that goal.
Abi has been dancing since the age of 3 and has been a part of the Next Step’s Award-Winning Performance Team for ten years. She has performed in many places including, Disneyland California Adventure and internationally throughout Europe. Abi is also apart of Dance Line at San Ramon Valley High School and is on their Pom team. She loves being involved in many charity events that help others who are in need. Abi can’t wait to share her love of dance with her students and watch them grow as a dancer!
As a professional dancer for 18 years, Britt Juleen has spent most of her career as a first soloist ballerina in Europe at the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam, and in Germany’s Dresden SemperOper Ballet’s exquisite Opera House. She also performed with Ballet Arizona, Ballet Gamonet in Miami, Florida, and with the contemporary dance companies iMEE and Jacoby&Pronk. Britt studied at the School of American Ballet, New World School of the Arts, Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Houston Ballet Academy, as well as teacher training at American Ballet Theater. Ms. Juleen received her M.F.A. in Dance from Hollins University and served as a full-time Professor at San Jose State University. She also served as the Artistic Director of Berkeley Ballet Theater.
Britt has been fortunate enough to perform the classical and contemporary works of some of the world’s leading choreographers such as Balanchine, Forsythe, Kylian, Ashton, Cranko, Tudor, Robbins, Graham, Neumeier, Fokine, Massine, Hans van Manen, Dwight Rhoden, Mauro Bigonzetti, Uwe Scholz, Sir Peter Wright, Paul Taylor, and Twyla Tharp.
Since 2012, Ms. Juleen has been teaching ballet across the San Francisco Bay Area including company class for Alonzo King LINES Ballet and ODC, as well as both of their school training programs. She has also taught at Marin Ballet, Marin Dance Theater, Contra Costa Ballet, and Roco Dance. She has choreographed for the Dutch National Ballet’s choreographic workshops and created a full evening of collaborated dance, photography, and music at Deluxe Arts Gallery in Miami.
Her approach to teaching is influenced by many facets of movement exploration, and her true love for the art form as a pure language of the soul and body. Alternate studies of somatic movement education such as The Feldenkrais Method, Body-Mind Centering, meditation, and embodied forms of psychology are of great importance to her, allowing her to enrich traditional ballet technique with an individual sense of authentic expression and kinesthetic development.
Elena’s love for dancing started at the age of 9 when she started studying ballet, character dance and jazz. By the age of 18 she graduated from one of the most prestigious dance academies in the world, Moscow Bolshoi Ballet Academy. After her graduation she moved to the USA with her family and continued her career as a world class adagio performer, where her professional edge required her to master several disciplines simultaneously: dance, acrobatics and the art of illusion. She has appeared on television shows, competitions and performed in more than 40 countries.
Elena is very excited to share her knowledge and love for the art of dancing with the next generation of dancers.
Karina has studied dance since the age of 3. She is an accomplished instructor and performer having participated on The Next Step's Award-Winning Competitive Dance Teams all her years at the studio. Karina performed locally in the community raising funds for charitable organizations in support of dance and the arts. She has performed at Disneyland, on Carnival Cruise Lines and on two European Tours. Most recently, Karina has been a cast member at Disneyworld, Florida! She has also won numerous awards and dance scholarships. Karina is an energetic and talented teacher with an enthusiasm for sharing her passion for dance with her students. She teaches Summer Dance Camp, Birthday Parties and private lessons when she is home from college.
Stephanie Gomez attended Cal State East Bay where she graduated with her B.A in Theatre Arts-Dance. Stephanie has toured to New Orleans to perform with both Touring Company and Dancing Drum Company, as well as attended ACDA (The American College Dance Association). Stephanie has performed in and choreographed for dance showcases for the past 8 years. Stephanie has also received two scholarships in dance within the last two years for her hard work and dedication. She especially enjoys dancing lyrical, contemporary and modern dance. She is excited to teach her first year of classes at Next Step, and become a part of a new prosperous community.
Jessica Krommenhoek began dancing and competing at the age of five. She has studied many styles of dance and performed both nationally and internationally with The Next Step over her years on Performance Dance Teams. Jessica has performed at Disneyland's California Adventure, locally raising funds for worthwhile charities such as Girls Inc, CASA and BWSF, and most recently on European Dance Tour. Jessica's favorite styles of dance include Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Contemporary. She loves teaching dance because Jessica wants to share her dance knowledge with young children in her community.
Jacquie discovered dance at the young age of three years old at a studio in the Bay Area, where she was born and raised. Dance, very quickly, became a passion for Jacquie and she found her way to a competition team. She has been trained in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, and acro, competing for 13 years on a nationally ranked team. Jacquie has had many wonderful opportunities to travel and learn from the best across the country. She has traveled all over California, including being a featured dancer at the Miss California Organization Pageant, as well as having her choreography featured two years in a row. She has traveled to Las Vegas numerous times for conventions and national dance competitions where she has won multiple National Solo Dance Titles and scholarships. She's also been to New York to be a dancer in the Dancer Responding to AIDS benefit, taken classes at Broadway Dance Center, as well as having the opportunity to be a featured opening number dancer in the infamous Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. She was also part of NBA Warriors Junior Jam squad for two years, performing during time-outs and half time. Jacquie has been teaching tap, jazz, lyrical, and technique since the age of 15. She has choreographed numerous dances, especially tap, receiving high placing awards regionally and nationally, as well as making showcases. Her love and passion for dance comes through in her teaching as she encourages her students to be the best that they can be!
Rachel Jackson is the Director of NS Crew, Fierce and Dance Rage, our competitive Company Dance Teams for junior hip-hop and high school students. She has performed in the Bay Area and internationally for the past 25 years. Rachel is the former Director of the San Francisco 49ers Goldrush Cheerleaders, has worked with Boyz II Men, Baby Face and Tony Bennett, plus appeared in commercials for Dr. Scholl's and Pepsi.
Cambell has been dancing at The Next Step since she was four years old. She has participated on The Next Step's Award Winning Performance Dance Teams for many years along with competitive Dance Line and Varsity Pom Team. Cambell has performed at many places including Disneyland's Grand Californian, on a European Dance Tour and at many local events to support charities and the arts in the surrounding community. Cambell continues to train in all styles of dance but her favorites are jazz and contemporary. She is excited to share her love of dance with all of her Next Step students encouraging them to grow as dancers and have fun!
Corissa Johnson attended California State University East Bay where she obtained a B.A. in Theatre Arts-Dance. She has been teaching and performing dance for over 17 years and has coached and taught dance at many bay area schools as well as CSUEB. Corissa is also a Recreation Specialist in Oakland. As well as being a teacher, Corissa is a professional dancer/performer. She has performed within the U.S. touring in Washington D.C., New York, Hawaii, California and also internationally to Germany in 2006 to compete in the IDO International Hip-Hop Competition. She dances, sings and plays drums within Dandelion Dance Theater (Bandelion Group) and has been a part of the Interclusive Interdisciplinary Ensemble (IIE) at CSUEB for many years now. She is also a core member of MEnD Dance-Theatre Company performing throughout the Bay Area promoting healing and mending through dance. Corissa's passion is to create, teach and insprire through dance!
Jessica Lim trained at the Dance Studio of Fresno for 10 years. She has studied jazz, contemporary, ballet, pointe, tap, hip-hop and African. She participated in the Elite Dance Teams at her studio and competed at numerous competitions and conventions where she won multiple dance scholarships. Jessica graduated from St. Mary's College with a degree in dance. She also participated in the St. Mary's Dance Company and Spirit Team during her years there. Jessica is excited to teach and share her love for dance with her students. The Next Step is happy to have Jessica on staff.
Holly has been dancing with The Next Step Dance Studio since she was 4 years old. She continues to shine on Award Winning Performance Dance Teams, having competed at Conventions such as Hollywood Connection, LA Dance Magic and NUVO to name a few. Holly has performed internationally throughout Europe as well as at Disneyland in Anaheim. She has helped raise money for many charities by performing locally and giving back to the surrounding community. Holly has also performed with the Pom Team and looks forward to providing the best experience for The Next Step's dancers and families.
Gabrielle Griffith received her early dance training as a member of the Dance Depot Performing Company. In those 14 years, she trained in jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and tap. She was also a student at the Idaho Falls School of Ballet for 13 years and trained with Brindusa-Moore Ballet Academy. In 2012 Gabby joined Bonnie Story's Dance Company, Expansion, in which she danced for 3 years. Gabby has shared her talent as a performer at local benefit concerts including: Utah Bully Awareness Concert and Valley Cancer Awareness. She taught at Treehouse Dance Academy and was also a member of LA Dance Magic's Dance Company, touring with them for a year. Gabby is a dancer and teacher in her heart and will find and embrace every opportunity to share her talent and love for this great art with all her students. She believes in teaching the importance of "life skills", not just dancing. The Next Step is happy to have Miss Gabby on staff!
Sophie has been dancing at The Next Step since the age of four. She has participated in the studio's Award-Winning Performance Teams for many years, including Dance Rage, the most advanced Performance Team. Sophie has performed in many places including Disneyland, local events and charity events that support dance and the arts in our local community. She has won numerous dance scholarships from different dance competitions/conventions in her years as a participant. Sophie has trained in all types of dance and enjoys teaching students different styles. She especially enjoys contemporary, lyrical and jazz. Sophie directs several of our younger Performance Dance Teams and enjoys sharing her passion for dance with all of her Next Step students.
